Consumption

I often go out to local summer festivals at night to photograph some dancing but instead I became too carried away in something different. What people are consuming, and how much. I had to try a taste of some of the food sold and I thought how expensive it was and the taste was not even so good. So I took out my video camera and started filming people selling, people buying and people eating. The dancing was just different business groups in matching kimono all doing the same dance. Each group was of course dressed differently but the dance was the same. seems to me the people were not much interested in the dancing as much as just buying. So these festivals become simple a place to spend money on not-so-good and expensive foods/drinks? So these festivals are becoming more and more consumption centered and less and less fun and entertaining unless shopping is entertainment for them. As soon as I have some time the film will be coming out sometime.

You must come out to the Powell Street Festival every summer (usually August I think) in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The songs and dances are diverse and captivating and the consumption elements are practically an afterthought.
