Together with population, cost of living and oil prices have all skyrocketed. A new generation of people are born called the “Made in China” generation. Cheaper is better so they say. Everything is made in China these days and if not in China then some other country where wages are cheaper. Not to long ago, quality craftsmanship was considered important but now the world has turned to cost effective strategies to economize including cutting costs even going as far as laying off people.
If you consider a very popular chain store in Japan called the 100 yen shop nearly everything there is made in China and other countries where the cost of production is cheaper and fewer items are actually made in Japan. If you consider the variety of things they carry how could it be possible for everything there to be sold for just 100 yen or 1 dollar? If you think about it 100 yen or one dollar is something like 6 or 7 RMB in China, which is quite significant because at least in rural China you can eat for as little as 3 RMB or even 1 RMB. Virtually impossible to do that in Japan.
Look at some of the products that are sold in the 100 yen shop and compare them to similar items sold in China and find that they are being sold for much cheaper. So the cost of production is really nothing nor is labor.
Then when you think about how long does most of those items last then you realize that they are all made for the landfill to encourage you to buy more. So in the end it is not really products made in China that are at fault. It is really the consumers/society who demands the products in the first place.
