The town of NingMing is located in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in Southwest China. Three and a half hours southwest by train from Nanning and about an hour and a half north of the Vietnam border. A very mountainous area and home to the Zhuang people. If you visit the area and travel from Pingxiang through Ningming and on to Chongzuo you will notice the road twists and turns through the mountains. Also evident that the language of the Zhuang is very diverse and different from city to city. Even the clothing is different between Pingxiang Zhuang and Ningming Zhuang.
The two closest cities are Pingxiang to the south and Chongzuo to the north, Chongzuo being the administrative center of the area. As the story goes When Pingxiang and Chongzuo applied for city status Ningming also applied but was turned down due to a corrupt mayor who was found to have stashed thousands in his home. Will NingMing ever have a chance to apply for city status again? Probably never because a 30 minute drive will take you to Pingxiang in the south and an hour to Chongzuo so there is really no reason for another city. Thinking about a amalgamating Ningming with Pingxiang does not really seem possible because of the mountainous geography. So for now the town will just keep growing in population without further improvements.
