Air Conditioning

Sitting on an air conditioned train for 3 hours with windows that cannot be opened is enough to kill a person. I often wonder how often do they change the air conditioning filters in large companies/trains/buses? I am sure that they must change/clean the filters once a year the day before the health inspectors come around to inspect the facilities. Air conditioners work by recirculating the air and pumping massive amounts of hot air outside. On a recent visit to Hong Kong, just about every building is air conditioned. I am out for a walk it’s 30 degrees with a light comfortable breeze. I step into a building and I am hit by a sudden change in climate – comfortable temperature to one that feels like winter in summer. I look around to see people in short sleeved T-shirts and I wonder how can they tolerate it? Yet these are the same people who complain it is too cold during the winter months, what is wrong with them?

They get sick in the middle of summer, why? sudden change in outdoor/indoor temperature is one, poor diet is another. Then there is the amount of energy wasted by these people who are constantly complaining that it is either too hot or too cold. These are probably the same people who say “oh well we need to recycle, reduce”. I say open a window and bare the heat, put on extra clothes if it is too cold then I realized a large number of windows on buses and buildings cannot be opened. Look at what they are doing, making buses and buildings that are closed to the outside elements. Now wait, these same people who complain it is too hot are the ones with allergies, I think these allergies are the result of years of being stuck indoors closed off from the outside elements. What a terrible world we live in. I am not sure which is better to use less energy so that we can continue the present lifestyle or to use it all up so that there will be nothing left if this is the case I am sure the industrialized countries will not be able to survive but the “developing” world who have done without all the “necessities” will be be the only ones surviving on earth. Sounds like a better idea, to reduce the population.
