One word in particular bothers me quite a bit in Chinese and Chinese people often get it wrong. Often Chinese will say local chicken when they mean to say free-range chicken.
So the two words are: 本地 [ben di] meaning local
土鸡 [tu ji] meaning free-range chicken
Of course the two are correct grammatically but anything can be local even the chicken produced at the factories that pump the chickens full of steroids can call thier chickens locally grown in their area. However, only chickens that are raised outdoors can be called free-range chickens. I think it’s a problem of people like to over simplify language but the problem is oversimplify it misunderstandings arise.
